Health promotion and health management for executives

Psychological stress is the main reason for absences from work.

Many workplace factors can trigger mental strain in employees and managers. We summarized the connection between leadership and health for the Fürstenberg Institute in a comic (see below). Changes in resources, restructuring, changes in management, job insecurity, and much more often lead to limitations in individual performance and disruptions in the relationships between managers and employees. The emotional motivation behind these performance or communication problems is often rooted in insecurity or even fear. As a result, those affected withdraw—usually unconsciously—and then struggle with physical or psychological impairments. According to recognized statistics from health and pension insurance providers, psychomental stress is now the leading cause of sick leave and long-term disability. Key terms here are stress and the so-called burnout syndrome.

Presenteeism

But it's not just about the 'hard factors' of sick days: Stanford University has demonstrated through empirical research on presenteeism that the damage to a company caused by employees who try to continue working despite impairment and illness (i.e., do not take sick leave) is significantly higher than the loss of productivity due to actual sick days.

The Stanford Formula

It must be assumed that 20% of a company's employees do not take sick leave despite reduced performance. These employees deliver, on average, about 25% less output. For a medium-sized company with 200 employees and an average annual salary of €36,000, this translates to, for example, €360,000 in lost productivity due to underperforming work. With 2,000 employees, this figure rises to €3.6 million.

Main cause of presenteeism: Problems at the workplace

According to relevant studies, workplace problems are the main cause of decreased performance. Performance pressure, lack of recognition, lack of trust, and poor management top the list of workplace problems, driving many employees to withdraw and leading to reduced productivity. It is naturally in every employer's interest to prevent health hazards. This is also their legal obligation: According to the Occupational Health and Safety Act, every employer is required to conduct a risk assessment and, based on this, implement occupational health and safety measures if necessary. We already offer advice and assistance in this area.

With workplace health management (BGM) you promote the health of your employees.

In addition to retrospectively eliminating health hazards as part of the legally required risk assessment, modern companies should have a strong interest in acting proactively and promoting the health of their employees. Genuine health management includes...

  • the development of a health-promoting corporate culture,

  • the promotion of a health-oriented leadership culture and

  • the merging of individual measures – healthy nutrition, fitness offers, family services, etc. – into a holistic overall package of health promotion.

We'll get your BGM flying and help you achieve a perfect landing.

Of course, you can't achieve all of this overnight. Building a workplace health management system takes time to develop. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in particular often struggle with the diverse and interconnected tasks that workplace health management entails. However, those who know the right starting points can achieve a great deal with small steps. We have extensive experience across various industries and company sizes in developing effective and sustainable health promotion programs, all the way to obtaining workplace health management certification. We offer you a clear and structured approach to assess the state of your workplace culture.

  • Where do the resources and potential lie?

  • What deficiencies, friction losses, loads and blockages exist?

  • What motivates your employees and keeps them healthy?

We maintain close relationships with established healthcare providers and help you further develop your organization's strengths and professionally address its weaknesses. Our goal is to systematically promote the health, satisfaction, and performance of your employees, thereby sustainably increasing your company's productivity. Employee representatives are, of course, involved in this process to ensure broad approval and support for the measures. In both the design and implementation phases, we consistently focus on the needs of our clients and maintain continuous and confidential communication with you. We offer an integrated action plan as well as individual aspects of our expertise, such as leadership training in health-oriented leadership, stress prevention workshops , and change management training .
